Harry’s Place attempts pathetic smear

The group blog Harry’s Place has attempted a pathetic and ridiculous smear against Pirate Party UK. Their logic — such as it is — goes like this:

1. Carl Lundström is a Swedish businessman with far-right views

2. Lundström supplied the servers on which The Pirate Bay originally ran

3. The Pirate Bay has a similar name to (but no formal links with) Sweden’s Pirate Party

4. Pirate Party UK is the British member of the international Pirate Party movement

5. Wikileaks is supported by Pirate Parties worldwide

6. Therefore, Pirate Party UK and Wikileaks are eeeeeeevil Nazis!

Tories and Lib Dems bus in phoney audiences

From Political Scrapbook we learn that both the Tories and the Liberal Democrats have been bussing in phoney audiences, in a way reminiscent of the former Soviet bloc:

The Liberal Democrats paid almost £9,000 to hire audience members for Nick Clegg’s town hall meetings, documents published by the Electoral Commission reveal. In contrast with the supposedly organic groundswell of support for the party leader, events consultancy Full House Audience Management were paid £7,600 to find audiences for four meetings between April 10 and May 4 in Gateshead, Glasgow, Redcar, and London.

The revelations echo an incident from March in which the Conservatives were exposed for “bussing in” Tory supporters to pose as students for a speech by David Cameron proclaiming his party’s “openness and trust”.

A reminder of Nick Clegg’s duplicity

Here’s a picture of Nick Clegg, just before the general election:

Nick Clegg pledging to abolish tuition fees

Nick Clegg pledging to abolish tuition fees

The pledge reads:

I pledge to vote against any increase in fees in the next parliament and to pressure the government to introduce a fairer alternative.

Furthermore, the Lib Dem manifesto said (on page 33):

We will scrap unfair university tuition fees so everyone has the chance to get a degree, regardless of their parents’ income.

Yesterday Clegg voted not only to keep tuition fees but to treble them to £9,000. He’s a treacherous lying bastard who can never be trusted again. Nor can the other 27 Lib Dem MPs who voted to increase tuition fees (here’s a list of the treacherous 28).

The Scottish election next May is your chance to tell Nick Clegg and the Lib Dem liars what you think of them. Hit them where it hurts, in the ballot box.
